To find your clothing size, measure your bust, waist and hips with a soft tape measure, then compare those numbers with the brand's size chart. It takes about five minutes and is the most reliable way to choose the right size when shopping online.
What you need
- A soft measuring tape (a tailor's tape)
- A mirror, or someone to help
- Light, close-fitting clothing
Step 1: Measure your bust
Stand straight and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level across your back. The tape should sit snugly but not tightly.
Step 2: Measure your waist
Find your natural waist, the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above your belly button. Breathe normally and measure around it.
Step 3: Measure your hips
Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Tips for accurate measurements
- Keep the tape parallel to the floor all the way around.
- Do not pull the tape tight. You should be able to slip a finger under it.
- Write each number down straight away, in inches or centimetres, whichever the size chart uses.
Choosing your size
Compare your measurements with the size chart. If you fall between two sizes, consider how you like your clothes to fit. Relaxed silhouettes, like many of our co-ord sets, can often be sized down for a closer fit, while structured pieces are usually best in the larger size.
